Humans are visual consumers, and this is also true when it comes to our interest in the news. Strong imagery can be the perfect entry point into an important story.

This is exactly why I find this task to be so important and meaningful. Creating appealing images that communicate clearly can be the reason why people click on a news article. As a visual communicator, I carry some of the responsibility of making important news accessible to the public and this responsibility allows me to feel the lovely meaningfulness of the work that I do.

It is important to create an illustration that first and foremost communicates clearly and with very simple tools invite the reader into the story without overwhelming with a profusion of messages and details. It is a great exercise in minimalism and the power of simple visual communication.
